Welcome to the 4th Degree website. We are a Seattle-based smooth-jazz/jazz-rock band. The 4th Degree plays an exhilarating mixture of familiar and original contemporary jazz with occasional side trips into pop, rock and funk
We've got THREE gigs in July!!!!
July 12th - Return to the Celtic Bayou
July 25th - Pacific NW Arts Fair in Bellevue
July 26th - Covington Days Street Fair
We will be playing again at a relatively new place in Redmond on Saturday July 12, 2003. Yes, that's right, the Celtic Bayou - your standard English Cajun fare!
We had a great time in April, and are lucky enough to have been invited back in July. The food and the beer are superb.

The 4th Degree
Jazz Rock.. Fusion.. Smooth Jazz ... all terms which describe a genre of music more sophisticated and soothing than rock ‘n roll but more contemporary and accessible than traditional or “straight ahead" jazz. Terms that all come close to describing “The 4th Degree". Seattle’s hottest new original sound quintet.
Founding members Leonard Jackson on guitar, Chip Erickson on keyboards and Mike Shaw on drums first formed the group in fall 1997 with members Mark Crouter on basses joining in early 1999 and Paul Fessenden on saxes and flute joining in 2001.
Whether playing familiar favorites by artists such as Steely Dan, Spyro Gyra, Grover Washington, or jazz classics by Miles Davis, Chick Corea or Weather Report the true essence of the music is embraced and embellished by The 4th Degree’s musicianship and passion for the songs they play.
The 4th Degree also seasons their sets with a unique range of original jazz. Songs such as the bossa nova groove “Perils in Paradise” or the haunting hues of “Shoreview Park” to the tribute to Roy Ayers, "Royal Ayers".The 4th Degree….the perfect blend of jazz and funk; familiar and original, danceable, upbeat and laidback.
